Near-data processing in database systems on native computational storage under HTAP workloads

چکیده
Today's Hybrid Transactional and Analytical Processing (HTAP) systems, tackle the ever-growing data in combination with a mixture of transactional analytical workloads. While optimizing for aspects such as freshness performance isolation, they build on traditional data-to-code principle may trigger massive cold transfers that impair overall scalability. Firstly, this paper we show Near-Data (NDP) naturally fits HTAP design space. Secondly, propose an NDP database architecture, allowing transactionally consistent in-situ executions operations settings. We evaluate proposed architecture state-of-the-art key/value-stores multi-versioned DBMS. In contrast to setups, our approach yields robust, resource- cost-efficient performance.

Control-Based Database Tuning Under Dynamic Workloads
Database administration (tuning) is the process of adjusting database configurations in order to accomplish desirable performance goals. This job is performed by human operators called database administrators (DBAs) who are generally well-paid, and are becoming more and more expensive with the increasing complexity and scale of modern databases. There has been considerable effort dedicated to r...
متن کاملOn Indexing in Native XML Database Systems
Database indices are fundamental data structures that improve the speed of data retrieval operations. In this paper, we focus on native XML database systems and provide an elementary survey of existing approaches for indexing semistructured data employed in selected academic open-source systems. Considering the requirements set for a particular system, ExDB, and the results of the accomplished ...
متن کاملPACT: G: From Near-Data Processing to In-Data Processing-in-Storage
Near-data in-storage processing research has been gaining momentum in recent years. Typical processing-in-storage architecture places a single or several processing cores inside the storage and allows data processing without transferring it to the host CPU. Since this approach replicates von Neumann architecture inside storage, it is exposed to the problems faced by von Neumann architectures, e...
متن کاملMetadata Workloads for Testing Big Storage Systems
Efficient namespace metadata management is becoming more important as next-generation file systems are designed for the peta and exascale era. A number of newmetadata management schemes have been proposed. However, evaluation of these designs has been insufficient, mainly due to a lack of appropriate namespace metadata traces. Specifically, no Big Data storage system metadata trace is publicly ...
متن کاملSanssouciDB: An In-Memory Database for Processing Enterprise Workloads
In this paper, we present SanssouciDB: a database system designed for serving ERP transactions and analytics out of the same data store. It consists of a columnstore engine for high-speed analytics and transactions on sparse tables, as well as an engine for so-called combined columns, i.e., column groups which are used for materializing result sets, intermediates, and for pocessing transactions...
